Horncastle House is a magnificent Elizabethan style country house located four miles from East Grinstead, West Sussex in an elevated position with fine views to the South Downs.

It provides a care home with nursing for older people; for people with dementia or Alzheimer's disease and also has specialist facilities for adults with physical disabilities. The friendly and homely atmosphere at Horncastle House ensures the service users are able to continue their lifestyle with personal privacy and dignity.

Philosophy

Our aim is to provide a home that offers a safe, comfortable environment with support and stimulation to help service users maximise their potential physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity. Service users have the right to live as normal a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them. The friendly and homely atmosphere we have created at Horncastle House ensures that the service users are able to continue their lifestyle with personal privacy and dignity. The peace and tranquillity of our lovely home and gardens is enjoyed by the service users who are confident of the high standard of care provision.

Facilities

Horncastle House is a care home with nursing, providing 28 places for people who have nursing and/or dementia needs and four places for physically disabled people. The house, which has been tastefully extended to provide single or shared rooms, most with en-suite bathroom facilities, is set in extensive grounds of 15 acres with orchards, rose garden and a wonderful variety of mature shrubs and trees. There are two fine lounges and a spacious dining room with doors opening into the gardens.

Nursing Care

Nursing care is of prime importance and is provided 24 hours a day by qualified staff under the personal supervision of the Registered Manager. Local GPs visit the home regularly and are on call at all times.

Therapy Input

Sussex Health Care retain the services of a range of therapists - physiotherapy, occupational therapy and reflexology are available on request. Experts are available to advise on any aspect of a service user's care, recreational pursuits or environment.

Activities

The activities programme is one of the most important aspects of life at Horncastle House. A huge range of activities are undertaken by the service users including handicrafts, quizzes, reminiscence sessions, music and movement, cookery and art therapy. The key aims of the programme are the provision of mental stimulation, continuation of hobbies and interests, and prolonging mobility.

Cuisine

Our experienced chef prepares interesting and homely cuisine with attention to individual requirements and any special diets. Mealtimes are important at Horncastle House and great care is taken to ensure that meals are attractively presented and elegantly served.

Training

All staff undertake an induction programme of instruction when joining Sussex Health Care. In addition a system of supervision and support for care staff enables them to gain experience and increase their skills. Extensive in-house training is provided by the Sussex Health Care training team to develop skills in dementia care, and QCF courses are undertaken in conjunction with local colleges.
