White Lodge is a spacious house surrounded by a large garden and it is located close to the centre of Purley near Croydon.
The house has been skilfully converted to accommodate eight people and offers a specialised residential environment for adults with learning disabilities who may also present moderately challenging behaviour.
Our aim is to provide a care home that offers a safe, comfortable environment with support and stimulation to help service users maximise their potential physical, intellectual, emotional and social capacity within an individual person-centred plan.
Service users have the right to live as normal a life as possible and to have the respect of those who support them.
White Lodge is a care home providing person-centred care with eight places for people with learning disabilities aged 18 to 65 years in a small residential setting with 24-hour support.
White Lodge is part of Sussex Health Care who retain the services of a range of therapists. Experts are available to advise on any aspect of a service users care, recreational pursuits or environment.
The approach to dealing with challenging behaviour emphasises the need for constructive activity and learning new skills. Each service user has a key worker who provides advice and support and devises an individual programme plan based on an assessment of needs and preferences. The plan might include a range of possible activities such as:
- Basic daily self-care skills and domestic skills
- Basic educational and social skills
- Individual and small group recreational activities
- Basic work experience activities
The location of White Lodge enables frequent trips into Croydon to gain experience in social situations and participation in mainstream leisure pursuits. Transport is provided to enable the service users to participate in local events and enjoy visits to London and the superb countryside surrounding Croydon.
Every effort is made to enable service users to keep in touch with relatives and friends and volunteer befriending schemes and lay advocacy is encouraged.
